Child playing with fireworks in garage sends Henderson schools on lockdown
When the loud bang sounded in the Irish Ivy of Henderson area just after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, it seemed like an odd time to start fireworks. But according to the police, this is ultimately what happened.
Someone who heard the bang assumed it was gunshots and called 911 to report it. When officers arrived in the area, they found no evidence of a shooting. No one had come to the local hospital emergency room with gunshot wounds.
All schools in the area have been closed to ensure student safety. The confinement lasted only ten minutes.
According to the Henderson Police Department, at around 3:20 p.m. another person called 911 to report that they had caught their child playing with fireworks in the garage.
The father said he found two fireworks that had been lit and he apologized for the inconvenience. No one was hurt.
