coast: Coastal artists exhibit their works of art at the Santiniketan in Calcutta | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: Following its successful foray into Kolkata last week, the city-based Art Kanara Trust has opened an expanded version (with more exhibits) of its exclusive exhibition of paintings, sculptures and photographs by 15 coastal artists at the prestigious Santiniketan Society of Visual Art and Design, Santiniketan.
The exhibition presented under the title ‘Self and the other-self – experiences of transposition’ was inaugurated on April 30 in the presence of Professor Gautam Das, Deputy Secretary of the Society, and remained open until Tuesday.
Professor Das said, “It is a good collaboration and a great opportunity for artists from the Karnataka coast to explore here. More students can visit here and interact with each other. The inauguration was followed by a flute recital by Janardhan Havanje, who also shared his experiences as a participant.
A delegation of coastal artists including Rajendra Kedige, Harish Kodialbail, Janardhan Havanje and Reshma Shetty attend the event. The delegation is led by Subhas Chandra Basu, Chairman of Art Kanara Trust and organizer of INTACH, Mangaluru Chapter.
Faculty members from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University attended the exhibition and interacted with the artists. They include Arghya Priya Majumdar (paintings department), Rishi Barua (sculpture), Uttam Kumar Basak (graphics department), Milon Dutta (architectural designer), Amiya Nimai Dhara (murals), Anupam Chaudhury (ceramics department) , artist Sheema Barua and singer Baul and artist Sanghamitra Das.
“We rarely get to see the works of artists from the Karnataka coast. We found the work interesting with a lot of variety,” said Rishi Barua.
Nancy Popp, a performance artist from Los Angeles, California, USA and Fulbright Scholar at Kala Bhavana who attended the event, said, “I enjoyed seeing this exhibit and I appreciate the artists’ vision. .
Works by coastal artists from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts on display include Harish Kodialbail, Janardhan Havanje, Jayavanth Shettigar, Jeevan Salian, Nemiraj Shetty, Permude Mohan Kumar, Rajendra Kedige, Ramakrishna Nayak, Reshma S. Shetty, Sampath Kumar P. , Santhosh Andrade, Santhosh Pai, Sharath Palimar, Vishwas M and Wilson Souza.
