Golf tied for second after first round at Matthews Auto Collegiate
Apalachin, NY – Temple Golf hit an under 286 on its first round at Matthews Auto Collegiate on Sunday to place second in the 14-team field. Play ends Monday in the two-day, 36-hole, 12-team tournament held on the 7,159-yard, par 72, Links of Hiawatha course.
> Conor McGrath continued his hot game for Temple, making an eagle on the par-five 18e hole to complete a three-penny round of 69 to place third among 82 golfers. He also had four birdies that day and continues to be at or below par for all six rounds this season.
> Graham chase done par on 15 holes with birdies on the fourth and 12e Holes. He made a bug on the 17the to finish with a minus 71 tied for 11th place. It’s his best first lap this season and his third at or below par.
> Dawson anders, who started at three after eight holes, also made an eagle on the 18e finishing strong with an even par 72 to tie for 13e globally.
> Joey morganti led the Owls early, shooting three under the top nine. However, he struggled on the last nine holes, shooting over-five on the last seven holes. He finished two for the day and tied for 25e to complete the Temple scorers.
> Ethan Whitney had the toughest round of his first season, scoring 10 of 82.
> Play individually, buddy Hansen was two (74) and tied with Morganti for 25e while Andrew Curran fired a seven-over 79 (t-67e) on his first round of the season.
> Temple is tied with Colgate and two shots behind Mount St. Mary’s (-4, 284). Host Binghamton is three strokes behind (289) and Saint Joseph’s five more (294) in fifth place.
> Devin Smith of Mount St. Mary and Justin Lane of Binghamton are tied for the lead by four under.
> Temple departs Mondays at 10:30 am and is twinned with Colgate and Mount St. Mary’s.
