Nickelodeon’s new art turns its stars into studio Ghibli legends
Studio Ghibli recently celebrated a major occasion as legendary animator and co-creator of the animation house, Hayao Miyazaki recently celebrated his 81st birthday, and fellow animators at Nickelodeon took the opportunity to celebrate the master. of the anime by combining the characters of Nickelodeon and Ghibli into one. With Miyazaki currently working on the next big animation project for the production studio, Hayao boasts “How do you live? “as his last job before he deserves the retirement, although it is not the first time that the host has announced his retirement.
Aside from the new movie that Ghibli has been touting since the release of Earwig and the witch in 2020, 2022 is also expected to see the arrival of Studio Ghibli’s first theme park, taking multiple locations from some of their biggest movies and bringing them into the real world. While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen anime worlds brought to a theme park environment, Universal Studios Japan regularly dives into series such as Attack on Titan, One Piece, and moreover, it is certainly the first time that the works of Ghibli have been presented in this new way.
Nickelodeon’s official Twitter account shared this stunning new piece of art, which sees Studio Ghibli characters merging with some of the biggest animated characters on cable channels, including the likes of Cat Dog, Hey Arnold, Invader Zim, Rugrats, Avatar The Last Airbender, and more:
Send a special birthday wish to #Hayao Miyazaki ??
Thank you for the amazing movies and stories that continue to inspire us!

One of Nickelodeon’s greatest anime properties, Avatar The Last Airbender, is set to see a comeback on two different fronts, as Netflix prepares to release a live-action adaptation of the beloved franchise and Avatar Studios works to create new animated projects that continue to explore the world of bending. . While Ghibli never made any official artwork for Aang and his company, the studio’s art style would certainly make it a great choice for giving these benders a new aesthetic. Needless to say, Ghibli and Nickelodeon both have a lot going on, although we never see an official crossover between the two in the animation world.
