New Personage art was released to aid voice actor Billy Kametz.
The new image was shared by the official Twitter account of Personage and Shin Megami Tensei publisher Atlus. The illustration was drawn by series character designer Shigenori Soejima and is a portrait of the character Takuto Maruki, who was introduced in 2019. Persona 5 Royal and was voiced by Kametz in the game’s English dub. The character is shown with a dialog box that reads “Get well soon”, referencing Kametz’s recent cancer diagnosis and subsequent hiatus from the dub. Atlus shared the image with a link to a GoFundMe fundraising campaign which was launched to help the voice actor cover his medical expenses.
The campaign has received over 2,700 donations and recently surpassed its fundraising goal of $150,000. The campaign will remain open indefinitely to raise additional funds. “Know that every donation, thousands at a time (!) to the smallest sincere amounts, small or large, has made a real difference and has been so appreciated,” said Jinnie McManus, the fundraiser’s organizer.
Kametz announced in a YouTube video on April 27 that he had been diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer and was taking a break while he continued treatment. According to the actor, the cancer has spread to his lungs, liver and spine, but he remains optimistic that he can beat the disease and eventually return to work. “I’m just gonna kick this thing’s ass and we’ll be right back…I’m not gonna give up.” says the actor.
In addition to PersonageKametz also lent his voice to the mainline Shin Megami Tensei series, where he starred as guest character Raidou Kuzunoha in the HD remaster of Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne.
